Seit den 1980er Jahren
wird die ehemalige Turbinenhalle des Elektrizitätswerkes Freiburg von
Bildhauern als Arbeitsplatz genutzt. Später kamen Theater-, Tanz- und
Musikgruppen dazu und heute ist das E-Werk außerdem ein bekannter und
vielbesuchter Veranstaltungsort in Freiburg. Hier arbeiten circa 30 bildende
Künstler/Innen unterschiedlicher Sparten.
foteXolutions besteht
aus bildenden Künstlern und Künstlerinnen, die im E-Werk arbeiten und ihre
verschiedenen künstlerischen und technischen Fertigkeiten für die Produktion
und Umsetzung von Ideen und Konzepten eingeladener Künstler/Innen nutzen
möchten um eine Ausstellungsreihe in der Fotoecke der Bildhauerhalle zu
initiieren.
Als Blaupause für das
Ausstellungskonzept dient Duchamps unhappy
ready made: 1919 schickte er aus New York als Hochzeitsgeschenk für seine
in Paris lebende Schwester die Anleitung zur Herstellung einer Arbeit per Post.
Die Ausführung sollte dann durch die Beschenkte selbst erfolgen.
Entsprechend zu diesem Konzept
werden die eingeladenen Künstlern und Künstlerinnen
gebeten, einen Entwurf oder eine Handlungsanweisung einzureichen, die
foteXolutions in der Fotoecke der Bildhauerhalle ausführen wird.
Durch die Vielfalt der im E-Werk ausgeübten künstlerischen Disziplinen
(Malerei, Bildhauerei mit Holz, Stahl und Stein, Keramik, Fotografie,
Goldschmiedearbeit, etc.) kann bei der Ausführung der eingereichten Entwürfe
auf ein breites Spektrum technischer und handwerklicher Fähigkeiten zurückgegriffen
werden. Die Arbeit sollte sich jedoch bezüglich Materialumfang und Zeitaufwand
(bis ca. 2 Tage) in einem überschaubaren Rahmen bewegen.
foteXolutions wird das entworfene
Kunstwerk produzieren, installieren und es bei der Eröffnung der Öffentlichkeit
präsentieren. Anschließend wird die Ausstellung online dokumentiert. Außerdem
kann das interessierte Publikum die Ausstellung am darauffolgenden Wochenende
nach Absprache besichtigen.

Since
the 1980’s the turbine hall of Freiburg’s former power station, the E-Werk,
provides local sculptors with working spaces. Following the artists in the so
called sculptor hall, theatre, dance and music groups moved in the complex and
today the E-Werk
is one of the most important event venues of the city. Meanwhile about 30
visual artists of different divisions have their studio in the building.
foteXolutions consists of the people working next to
each other in the E-Werk who join forces to use their diverse artistic and
technical skills for the production and realization of ideas and concepts
brought to them by invited artists from outside. The results constitute an
exhibition series, presenting the works at the photo wall inside the sculptor
hall.
Duchamp’s
unhappy ready-made serves as a blueprint for the exhibition concept. This piece
had the form of
a written instruction for the manufacturing of a work, which Duchamp sent from
New York to his sister in Paris as a birthday gift. The realisation of this
work had to be carried out by the recipient herself. According to this concept, we invite artists
to send an instruction for a piece that will be executed by foteXolutions.
Due to the variety of artists (painters, sculptors working with wood, steel or stone, photographers, goldsmiths, ceramists, etc.) who are using the E-Werk as their studio, the purposed concepts can draw upon a broad range of engineering and technical skills which all may be deployed for the project. However the work should remain within manageable limits regarding to the scope of material and time (about 2 days).
foteXolutions
will produce and install the drafted artwork, it organizes the opening and
documents the exhibition online. The interested public also has the possibility
to visit the exhibition on the following weekend.
